Black & Decker BDCDMT112 Matrix Review
The Black & Decker BDCDMT112 Matrix 12-Volt Lithium Drill Matrix Quick Connect System is being released just in time for the christmas market. Let me start by saying this model is not for the contractor and is aimed at the home handyman and keen DIY persons, they have a 20 volt version coming soon for the pro user which we will review when we get our hands on it so bookmark our site for the future.
Having to cart all your powertools around the house can be a bind, but with this new system from Black and Decker those days are gone. This model has all the tools you will need built into one with quick change attachments that can be changed with one hand. Most combo kits out there just use interchangable batteries and you have to purchase the tool. With this model you use the same base for all the tools available, just switching the different tool heads and there are 7 of these to choose from so you will have a power tool for every job you encounter. The Matrix base unit is will be available in three cordless variants: 12-volt, 20-volt and 4.0 Amp AC corded tool.
All these attachments will fit into a small tool bag making for easy transportation around the house. What attachments are available with the Black and Decker Matrix Quick Connect System, well the standard base unit comes with a drill driver, then there is a oscillating multi-tool (handy for cutting in awkward places) a jig saw and what you might not expect a router that can also be used as an edging saw. They use a lithium-ion battery which we like as the hold their charge when the tool is not being used upto 18 months so it shouldn’t be dead when you come to use the tool.
Pricing for the Matrix Quick Connect base unit will be $39.99, $49.99 and $69.99 for the 12-volt, 24-volt and 4.0 Amp models, respectively. The rest of the attachments will cost between $29 to $39 each. They hit stores beginning October.
- Matrix Quick Connect System allows quick and easy change of a variety of attachments
- Powerful 12-Volt Motor for the performance needed to complete DIY activities
- Compact and lightweight design allows users to carry out drilling/driving tasks in confined spaces and with ease
- 11 position clutch provides extra level of control to prevent stripping and overdriving screws
You have to note that all these attachments come seperate to purchase apart from the cordless drill driver, so you are able to purchase the different attachments as and when you need them. But all in this type of system is a great time and money saver for the home handyman incorperating an easy tool switching system.
What sort of performance can you expect from the Black & Decker BDCDMT112, well along with the extended battery life it comes with a rugged built clutch the attachments all fit snugly into the base with no slack or wobble movement that we could find. Along side this it comes with an eleven stage clutch settings which should cover every job and stop you from stripping screw heads and burning out the motor.
If you have to use the drill for long periods you are ok as they have kept the weight to a minimum so no risk of arm fatigue and is the perfect size for the enclosed spaces that can prove hard to work in with larger cordless power tools. Just bare in mind you are only getting 12 volts of battery power though till the 20 volt hits the market.
For the casual user and DIY’er the 12 volts will produce enough power for the jobs in hand, the Matrix Quick Connect is really a great new inovation in cordless technology and perfect for the home owner wanting a good range of cordless power tools.
